Eating Update

Hehehe...I just love this picture of Brayden. I'm thinking it will make a great senior video or wedding video picture!

Little girl is doing so well with her new diet. (Read here if you don't know what I'm talking about.) Brayden has had practically no wheat or soy since Tuesday, September 18. I wish I could say NO wheat or soy, but I'm pretty sure I've goofed a few times and given it to her. Like the day I packed her a sun butter and jelly sandwich for school lunch and completely forgot and put it on regular bread. She came home from school and was like, "Mom I didn't eat all of my sandwich today because I'm not supposed to have wheat." Oops, silly mom! I was able to meet with our doctor with a long list of questions a few weeks ago. We decided that we would stay away from foods that could have cross contamination with peanuts, but foods possibly cross contaminated with wheat or soy were okay. We don't need to worry about meats or eggs - the traces of soy or wheat would be non-existent or very slim. The doctor also thinks soy lecithin is okay, but we will stay away from soybean oil and soybeans. I felt better after my visit with the doctor and much more knowledgeable!
Eating at home has actually been pretty easy. I am making dinners that she can eat and the rest of us are joining her. We've discovered one of her favorites is hamburgers with lettuce as the bun (protein style if you are an In-N-Out fan). I've found gluten free, soy free muffin recipes as well as cookie recipes that have all been a hit. Eating out continues to be a little challenging. There isn't much out there that is wheat AND soy free (soy being the challenge). She usually has a hamburger, fish or steak with some fruit or fresh veggies. We are lucky that most restaurants these days have menus that make it easy to find out what she can and cannot have.
Here she is enjoying a s'more from last night. The rest of us had ours between graham crackers but she had hers between 2 Enjoy Life Chocolate Chip cookies. Enjoy Life is a great brand I've found that is free of all of the 8 major allergens. She loved her s'more and went back for s'more!! :) Brayden has been a champ throughout this big change. She has accepted the fact that she can't have some things and is becoming quite knowledgeable. She is great about asking questions and reminding people of what she is unable to eat.

So glad you all are figuring this out! I'm sure it's been quite a challenge! Sending lots of hugs to Brayden (& everyone else, too)! :)
