I Need Your Advice!

If your house is anything like mine right now, you are finishing up the school year.
Everyone is ready for summer.
It's getting hot and you are staying busy.
I love the summer time! But there is something I dread...
Having all three children at home arguing, whining, bored.
I think you know where I am going with this.
Anyone else have these feelings?
Here is where all of my fabulous readers come in! {I know you are out there!}
What are your plans to not have this happen?
What do you have in place to limit TV/computer time?
What are your discipline/reward plans?
What will you do for {cheap} fun to not be in the house all the time?
Anything else you want to share?
Don't hold anything back!! I think we will all benefit from each other's advice!

Just off the top of my head...does your local library have story time? You could also let them check out books and have your own "DEAR" time at home. You could have a craft time (play doh's always fun), do y'all have a zoo? We go to the park a lot, we play outside with bubbles, sidewalk chalk is a favorite...I'm sure none of these ideas are new to you. I've heard the other moms at church with older children talk about getting passes to local places like the movie theater and water parks. We'll also be going to Mother's Day Out once a week and swimming lessons. You could always go fly a kite on windy days :) If I hear any out of the orinary ideas, I'll send them your way!

I thought of another one. An older friend of mine said she used to take her children to a local nursing home. They didn't have family there, but she wanted them to be comfortable around the elderly AND the old folks love to see children!!

Fun ideas, Amber! We take kids from church to deliver bananas and hugs to the people at the nursing home. It's fun for the kids and the residents. Bananas are cheap and most people are able to eat them, even if they're diabetic. It's also fun for older kids to join them for bingo!

I just emailed you both invites to join pinterest (a virtual idea board). It's so much fun! I have a board with ideas from around the web of fun things to do with kids. Carson's too young for most of them now, but I'm just trying to collect them.

One of my favorites is a jar full of activities and chores. When your kids are looking for something to do, have them draw something out of the jar, it's a risk, because it might be fun and might not:)

Here is a blog I really like that has activities for various ages: http://daicia.blogspot.com/ and I just found this one, but haven't really looked at it much yet: http://homelearningfrombirth.blogspot.com/

Do you guys have KIDS BOWL FREE in your area? I signed my daughter up and she can bowl 2 free games EVERY day. I bought an unlimited shoe rental for $10. (We have been 3 times and love it.)

We also love story hour at the library during the summer... and our library's summer reading program is weekly and has puppets, jugglers, singers... you never know!

Playdates with other moms is always great.

I have thought about going to other church's Vacation Bible School but our summer seems to get filled up with traveling to the Gparents, vacations, and swim lessons that I just want summer to slow down. My first day of summer is June 11!!!
